Motorhome Paris Olympics Travel Guide

Your Motorhoming Guide to Touring the 2024 Olympic Games Paris

The countdown to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is drawing closer! The Olympics is one of the world’s largest sporting events meaning accommodation for hotels and BnB’s comes at a huge cost! However, by touring the games in your motorhome or campervan you save yourself a massive expense and already have transportation to tour to see different sporting events around France!

How to get tickets for the Olympics

Haven’t secured your tickets yet? If you need last-minute tickets, luckily there are still tickets available via the official 2024 Olympics Paris ticket website, as 100 days before the beginning of the games https://tickets.paris2024.org/en/search/?affiliate=24R  released 250,000 new tickets!

Beware of Ticket Scams

With large sporting events like the Olympics come counterfeit tickets or scammers selling non-existent tickets. Here are some tips to avoid fake tickets:

  • Only buy from official ticket platforms.
  • Avoid third-party website sellers.
  • Watch out for copycat websites that mimic the look and layout of official sites in order to sell fake tickets.

Can’t secure tickets to the Olympics, have you considered the Paralympics?

The Paralympic Games celebrate diversity and inclusion showcasing the ability of incredible athletes with physical disabilities. Just like the Olympic games, the Paralympics has a broad range of sporting events that are spread across France!  The Paralympic Games begin in late August and run until late September, so touring the Paralympics is ideal for booking campsites out of the peak summer season when campsites are expensive and busy!

Accommodation – What to look for when searching for campsites

Costs

First of all, the obvious, compare the costs of different sites to make sure you’re getting the best deal! If you’re part of any international camping clubs look to see if you can get a discount!

Navigating websites

While searching online for a campsite you may find that some websites are by default in French, which may pose a slight challenge if your French is limited to Bonjour!  To change the language to English look for a language dropdown button it is usually located in the top header of the website.

Facilities

Make sure to check that a site is suitable for your needs if you require facilities such as toilet blocks, showers, electricity hookups, Wi-Fi, etc.

Location, Location, Location!

Before you book a site be sure to check how far it is from your booked sporting events.

Parking & Transportation options

Check if there is suitable parking for your vehicle near the sporting venue, if there is not, research to see what public transportation options are available near your campsite.

Accessibility

If you have special requirements for getting around make sure your campsite is accessible and can cater to your needs.

Insurance

The big one, insurance! While travelling all over France for the games you want peace of mind that your motorhome or campervan is reliably covered. For a fully comprehensive quote for your vehicle including full cover for the EU and optional breakdown cover give a member of our team a call today on 0208 984 0666 or get a quote online.

Once you’ve got your motorhome or campervan covered, don’t forget to get cover for yourself with travel insurance. Travel insurance provides you with financial protection in the event of certain accidents or emergencies, this can cover a range of possibilities, including trip cancellation, injury, lost or stolen luggage and more.

The Olympics Opening Ceremony – 26.07.2024

The opening to the French Olympic games is making history! For the first time ever the opening ceremony will not be taking place in the stadium. Instead, this unique opening ceremony will be held in the heart of the city! In this display of creativity and athleticism, the parade of athletes will be held on the Seine with boats for each national delegation.

Admission to this event is free for spectators to watch from the upper quays and doesn’t require tickets, however, if you wish to watch the event from the lower quays, from the Austerlitz bridge to the Iéna bridge you’ll need to buy tickets.

Closing ceremony 11.08.2024

The finale to the Olympic Games Paris is embracing a more traditional setting at the Stade de France. During the closing ceremony athletes will proudly display their nation’s flags, followed by medal ceremony speeches and concluding with the extinguishing of the Olympic flame. Unlike the opening ceremony the closing ceremony will require tickets for entry.

Olympic Games 2024 – Venues and Sports

Although Paris is the centre of the Olympics this year the games aren’t limited to this location, giving you a great opportunity to tour France in your motorhome or campervan!

All across France an enormous range of different sporting events are occurring where you can watch athletes compete; the games aren’t even limited to France, as in the French Polynesian territory Teahupo’o, Tahiti surfing has been added as a sport (this is the second time ever this Sport has featured in the Olympic games!)

Here’s a run down of the different sporting events and where they are being held:
