The importance of having the right travel insurance in place

Make sure you’re covered for emergencies

With the climate emergency and global warming, the weather is becoming frequently more and more unpredictable. Almost every region in the world is now facing extreme changes in weather, which in many cases result in heatwaves, droughts, major storms, and fires.

The fires raging across the Greek Islands are one of the latest of many unfortunate disasters related to the recent heatwave across Europe. From these fires a lot of discussion on travel insurance has arisen with stories of people unable to attend their holiday and having to cancel who are unable to receive a refund for their trip as their insurance does not cover it. No one knows when a weather-related disaster may occur that’s why it’s so vital to make sure your travel insurance plan covers you for the unexpected.

Catastrophes that our travel insurance covers:

  • Fire
  • Flood
  • Earthquake
  • Explosion
  • Volcanic eruption and/or volcanic ash clouds
  • Tsunami
  • Landslide
  • Avalanche
  • Hurricane
  • Storm
  • Civil commotion and/or civil unrest not assuming the proportions of or amounting to an uprising
  • Outbreak of food poisoning or an infectious disease.

Insuring yourself for the appropriate costs

Many insurers will let you set the amount for cancelling or cutting your trip short, many people will set this to the minimum amount to get cheaper insurance as they don’t believe they will need this cover. However, it is vitally important to make sure this cost will cover the cost of your holiday accommodation, ferries, Eurostar tickets or flights, etc, so in the event of an emergency where you have to cancel or cut your trip short you’ll be covered for the appropriate amount.

Don’t forget to cover additional extras like campsite bookings, events or activities you’ve booked too if needed!

Unlike with standard motorhome insurance, with travel insurance you can also opt to cover personal belongings such as valuables, replacement of essential items if lost in transit due to carrier error during the outward journey for more than 12 hours, personal money (excluding cash), cash, and replacement important documents when it’s in the motorhome.

What valuables do we cover?

  • Jewellery
  • Watches and fitness trackers
  • Cameras
  • Camcorders
  • Satnavs (including GPS trackers)
  • Telecommunications equipment (including mobile phones)
  • Other electronic entertainment devices
