Staycations
STAYCATIONS:
Post COVID, many people are still continuing with staycations. The pros and cons to this are:
Pros:
- Cost – One of the best reasons to do a staycation is the cost; going abroad does add up with your flights, airport parking / taxis, package holidays, and with the cost of living for everything rising considerably at the moment, having a holiday in the UK could work out a lot more economical. Also there isn’t the need for travel insurance and with the exchange rate being at an all-time low, you will receive £ for £ or lower.
- Eco Friendly – With climate change becoming an increasingly worrying thing, more and more people are looking at ways to reduce their carbon footprint. Flying is hugely polluting our environment; this can be reduced by supplementing holidays abroad with staycations.
- Less hassle – You haven’t got to worry about getting to the airport for a certain time, delayed flights, jet lag, exchanging your money, losing any luggage. With a staycation you can load up your motorhome and be on your way. Also, no worries about covid restrictions, even though the UK restrictions have been wiped that’s not the same for other countries.
- Can take your dog – Staying in the UK means you can look for dog friendly sites and take your furry friend along with you. Don’t have to worry about finding someone to take care of them and fussing about them when your away, they can be packed up in the motorhome and come along for the ride.
Cons:
- Weather – Weather in the UK can be unpredictable at the best of times so even if you plan a holiday for the summer, you could get a week of rain. If you have fun outdoor activities planned the weather could ruin these or they could get cancelled.
- Traffic – Traffic is one of the worst things about the UK and it can take up a lot of the start of your journey. Majority of people go on holiday at the same time, school and bank holidays. This means that the roads are usually packed and getting you from one part of the country to another can take a lot longer than wanted or expected.
- Places getting booked up – Since COVID, staycations have become a lot more popular so it’s not as easy to go and book somewhere last minute. In the busy season especially, places get booked up quite quickly which means prices are usually higher as well.
- Less culture – Some people like going abroad to get the feel of a new culture, try new food, explore new lands and traditions. If that’s what you are looking for staying in the UK can be a little underwhelming.
Where to go in the UK:
The UK has a lot of choice, so if you want a relaxing holiday on the beach or to spend your time hiking up a mountain, there are places and activities for everyone.
England: – England is a great place for a staycation and there are a variety of places to choose from. You can visit the beaches in Devon, the lakes in the Lake District or see a bit of history at the Stone Henge, you’ve got a choice no matter what you’re looking for.
Ireland: – For many people, a trip to Ireland will include a ferry but it would all be worthwhile. There are some amazing landmarks and views to be seen in Ireland and plenty of traditional Irish pubs where you can have a drink alongside the locals.
Scotland: – Scotland has something for everyone, you can get great nightlife in their city centres, or you can spend your time hiking the West Highland Way route. The views in Scotland are beautiful and it is a great place for a road trip, North Coast 500 is very popular.
Wales: – Wales is full of interesting and historic places for everyone to enjoy. It is filled by beautiful forest, great mountains and famous national parks. There is also a place in Wales (one of the only two places in the UK) where you can spot the red squirrel.
