What should the Tyre Tread of my Motorhome/Campervan be?

The legal minimum your tyre tread should be is 1.6mm (this is for vehicles under 3500kg weight.) However, it is recommended to change your tyre when the depth goes below 3mm.

 

Tyre Pressure for a Motorhome or Campervan

Tyre pressure is important to check regularly, especially before setting off on a long journey. Tyre pressure is not one size fits all, motorhomes and campervans tend to have a far higher PSI than the average car. The average car’s ideal tyre pressure is between 30 and 35 PSI whereas the average motorhome is 80 PSI.

To find the optimal PSI for your specific leisure vehicle you should consult your vehicle’s manual or look for your vehicle loading information (this is usually printed on the driver’s door.)

Be careful if you are using an online tyre pressure checker that takes the number plate of your vehicle, if your vehicle is a conversion this pressure may only be for the base of your vehicle and will not include weight for your belongings, utilities, or furniture.

If you have up-plated your vehicle you will need to work out the tyre pressure for your vehicle’s updated weight.

To avoid the risk of a tyre blowout, when loading up your motorhome or campervan before a trip, it is vital to make sure you are working within the maximum weight limit of the tyres.
