Size is the most significant difference between an American RV and a motorhome. American motorhomes are traditionally constructed differently to European models, usually being larger. They're typically built on a bus or lorry chassis and can exceed 11 feet in height, which makes them tend to resemble coaches. In contrast, UK coach-built motorhomes are typically constructed on commercial van chassis, only reaching about nine feet high.
Coach-built American motorhomes do exist, yet the majority are fully integrated A-class models where the driving area is built into the living area section. This is what gives them a reputation for exceptionally large living spaces, with many models featuring slide-out sections that even further expand the room you can relax in whenever you're parked up. Exclusions on our American RV insurance policies
There are some instances your policy won't cover, including:
- Loss or use, wear and tear, and depreciation
- Loss or damage as a result of theft when the keys have been left in the ignition
- Any accident or damage caused by someone driving the vehicle without the proper licence
- Damage to tyres caused by braking or puncture, cuts or bursts
- Damage to your vehicle caused by domestic animals, vermin, moths or infestation
