Tyre Pressure for a Motorhome or Campervan
Tyre pressure is important to check regularly, especially before setting off on a long journey. Tyre pressure is not one size fits all, motorhomes and campervans tend to have a far higher PSI than the average car. The average car’s ideal tyre pressure is between 30 and 35 PSI whereas the average motorhome is 80 PSI.
To find the optimal PSI for your specific leisure vehicle you should consult your vehicle’s manual or look for your vehicle loading information (this is usually printed on the driver’s door.)
Be careful if you are using an online tyre pressure checker that takes the number plate of your vehicle, if your vehicle is a conversion this pressure may only be for the base of your vehicle and will not include weight for your belongings, utilities, or furniture.
If you have up-plated your vehicle you will need to work out the tyre pressure for your vehicle’s updated weight.
A good tool to use to find out your ideal tyre pressure is Tyre Safe’s Motorhome Tyre Pressure Calculator. This tool takes the front and back of the plated maximum axle load or the fully laden axle load and the tyre size of the vehicle to give you the ideal tyre pressure.
Don’t overload your vehicle
